Pain Changes Everything. We Can Help.
Posture is critical to your health and well being. Strong posture emphasizes the use of large muscles like the core, shoulder blade stabilizers and deep neck muscles which minimizes the workload, pain and tension in the smaller spinal and neck muscles. Think of good posture as stacking the building blocks of your pelvis, shoulders and head on top of your feet. Your posture in some ways is a reflection of how you are looking at the world. Look at your posture, because others do.
Often poor posture is an indication of other things going on in the spine or in your mental health. Injuries, certain jobs and genetics play a role as well. The increased use of technology is having a negative effect on our posture. But an awareness, spinal treatment (if necessary to get it moving better), and simple exercises can improve posture significantly.
We use postural retraining exercises to get you sitting and standing taller. One program we teach is a posture and movement strengthening program called Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization - or DNS - which uses the developmental positions that babies master to strengthen and activate postural muscles naturally.
In children, poor posture can make permanent life long patterns and potential problems.
We believe that everyone should have a postural check up or screen. Our physiotherapist and chiropractor always include posture analysis as part of their evaluation. Posture pictures are one of the tools we use for helping visualize the effects posture has on your body. Usually quick, effective postural exercises are recommended for most individuals.
