The spine is a complex interconnecting network of nerves, joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments, and all are capable of producing pain. Large nerves that originate in the spine and go to the legs and arms can make pain radiate to the extremities.

People with back pain typically need to move. Too much sitting or bed rest will make you worse. Try to walk and move into positions that ease your pain. In most acute cases, ice, walking and movement helps. Bending and sitting can make things worse. Lying in the 90/90 position often relieves pain.

Lying on your stomach and slightly arching your back backwards, stretches the back and often relieves some of the pain.
